Optimize your Instagram account for SEO

Updated: Apr 6, 2020

Creating a new Instagram account requires a few adjustments to get you started the right way. You need to be discovered quickly by your audience. Here are 5 hacks to help you optimize your account for search engines.

1 . Username

You first need to choose your IG account’s name. It has to be efficient, not overused and related to your activity. If you are creating an account for your brand, your should put your brand’s name to be easily found by your potential clients.

2. Your IG name

Write essential keywords in the name section so you can easily be found on “Search”, so even if people aren’t looking for your name, they can find your account thanks to the keywords you added. Keep in mind that the IG name is limited to 30 characters.

3. Account suggestion

Make sure that you have turned the “Similar account suggestion” on! You can have access to this from your computer by clicking on “Edit Profile”. When someone taps Follow on an Instagram profile, they'll see suggestions of similar profiles they might also want to follow, such as mutual friends or other people they might know. If you turn on this option your profile might appear as a suggestion on someone else’s profile.

4. Privacy setting

Make sure your profile is set to public! New profiles are set to public by default, meaning that anybody can have access to your profile and see your content. However, double check your privacy settings to ensure your account is public.

5. Keyword-rich bio

You bio is limited to 150 characters, make sure to use them smartly to optimise the search results. The bio should be a quick description of what your account is about. It must be efficient to convince a user to convert into your follower. If you have other brand accounts or influencers you work with, you can also include @usernames here, and they will turn into clickable links. You can also include # that will transform into clickable links too. Eventually, add a website link that will help you drive more traffic to your website.
